Fay Designs

Fay Designs is an interior design company with a natural, minimal, original design style.

The owner, Krystel, lives in Northern Colorado but is originally from Montreal, Quebec, and she planned to continue working with a large client base there. That made Fay Designs the first time Good Day created a brand for primarily a non-English speaking population! Working in another language, in this case French, was such a fun “design bucket list” item!

The goal for the logo and brand was to create a distinct and versatile logo suite that has a calming, classic, easily understood appearance. Because the business will be based online, making sure it appears well digitally with enough variety to keep the brand engaging was an important factor.

The plan for Fay Design was always to work with residential clients, so Krystel loved the idea of having a house in the logo. In the original concepts, I presented two different house options that you can see here:

Concept 1: Modern

Concept 2: Vintage

The first is a little more modern and streamlined, the second is more detailed and vintage. We both agreed that the first option felt it would be a stronger fit for a broader audience, but she LOVED the house illustration and didn’t want to get rid of it completely.

I had researched common house styles in Montreal before drawing this house and as soon as Krsytel saw it, she said it reminded her exactly of the first house she and her husband lived in together. After that, we had to find a way to use it!

This is the collaborative part of the logo process I love. While it always makes the most sense to choose the mark that you will use as your primary logo, from there you can have a lot of freedom, and we came up with other creative ways to use the house illustration, such as in a brand pattern and on thank you cards.

“Emily was able to size exactly what I wanted and even more. She is professional and she meets her deadlines. I love working with her from start to finish. A very trustworthy person with enormous talent. Simply the best.”

- Krystel Gauvin, Owner of Fay Designs
