As we enter the beginning of the holiday season, I thought it would be fun to share one of my favorite projects I worked on several years ago. This cookbook is something I thought of and became obsessed with creating essentially all at once. I have always loved cooking and obviously have a passion for design. This cookbook was my way of merging these two passions, as well as a way to practice what it would be like to direct a creative concept for a large scale multipage document.
Looking back, I don't think I knew what I was getting myself into when I started or how large of a project this would become. One of the things that I love about this cookbook is how much my loved ones are reflected here. The recipes are all complied from friends, family, and some from Pinterest. I was inspired to create a cookbook when my grandfather undertook a similar task a couple of years prior to the start of Yum. The recipes are a collection representing occasions of life from holiday traditions to beloved childhood recipes to dishes discovered while vacationing with family.
To really begin to bring Yum. to life, I started researching other cookbooks and creating a mood board to direct the aesthetic. I chose colors and type treatments first, then designed the cover to establish the overall visual personality.
This passion project took about year to complete as I tested and photographed each recipe, then complied a total of 48 recipes into a completed cookbook. It is one of my favorite things I have worked on to date. I hope you enjoy looking through these recipes and are able to make some of them yourself sometime! Happy holidays!
